Reception - Mrs Earl, Mrs O'Keeffe & Mrs Burns

The entire school dressed up as Shakespearian characters during Shakespeare Week. In FS2, we watched the film of Gnomeo and Juliet and the children took part in a range of activiites linked to the story, from arts and crafts to writing thier own review of thier favourite part of the film. We think they looked great! Don't you?

Our day

The children in FS2 work from a range of texts across the term.

We choose different texts to provide the children with a wide range of stimulus to aid their learning.

We have different areas within the classroom to enable the children to find an acitivty that interests them. They are encouraged to develop thier own acitivities and develop their curiosity.

Phonics

We are working on Phase 2 and Phase 3 Phonics. The children are learning thier letter sounds, and how to use these to build the sounds into words.

To find out more about how we teach phonics, Mrs Heerin runs an after school class on Thursday straight after school. ~You are welcome to come along with your child and work together. Staff are available to answer any questions you may have.

Maths

Maths is taught through a range of activities. Children are taught a concept and they are then given a range of opportunitiies to practice this. For example, when teaching money, the chidren will be given tasks to work on in maths books, but they will also be able to work practically in the shop, or the home corner using the language they have learned. There will be a variety of different tasks provided for them to demonstrate their understanding.
