Year 3M - Miss Martindale's class

Our year so far…

Year 3M have had a great first term and now understand the rules and routines in year 3. We enjoyed writing diary entries in our first half term, after a three day trip around Europe! (In our class boat.) In our second half term we focused on WW2 and the children wrote some fantastic WW2 evacuation stories.

Hand writing was a huge focus in our class last half term and lots of children have made such great progress with this that they have earned a pen. If you child is not yet on pen, please practise with them at home to help them achieve this!

Y3M now have PE every Monday. This half term will be gymnastics. Please could all children ensure a they have a full indoor and outdoor PE kit in school every day.

Children receive their new homework every Wednesday. They will always get one English and one Maths activity and will write their new homework pages into their homework diary. The homework must be handed in by the following Monday.

As times tables form a very important part of junior life, we ask you practise with your child at home regularly to help them to learn them quickly. This will give your child a head start in many other areas in maths.

Children are tested on their weekly spellings every Wednesday afternoon. They will then receive a new spelling/ handwriting sheet after their spelling test to hand in the following Tuesday (this is so they can practise the day before the spelling test).

Extra learning at home

Maths is a focus for our class this term. If your child has completed all of their homework and they have access to a computer they can access the DB learning platform from home. There are a variety of games and learning activities for them to take part in.

Reading books will be sent home every night and will need to be in school every day so we can also listen to your child at school. There is a space provided in your child’s reading diary for parents to comment and confirm which page your child has read to.
