Year 6S

Hello and a warm welcome to you from Y6S!

Mr Smith

Our class teacher is Mr Smith and our teaching assistants are Mr Riley and Mrs Shaw.

It is with great excitment and anticpation that we begin our final year here at Christ the King: it will be both challenging and rewarding. Yes, we will be working hard towards our SATs but that is only a part of the rich and exciting curriculum we will be studying this year. By the end of this term alone we will have camped out in the school (like the Famous Five) and become published authors!

Our teachers will ensure that we ‘work hard and play hard’, providing fun and thought provoking lessons which will prepare us for secondary school and beyond.

Being in the top class – Year 6 – brings about lots of responsibilities; we are all prefects and have lots of duties to fulfil throughout the week. Looking after the younger children in the school is something we particularly enjoy doing – we realise that our good behaviour and example is so important.

If you want to find out what we will be learning about each term, you will find really useful information on our curriculum newsletters located here on our class page.

Check out the school Twitter feed for daily updates on our adventures!

If you ever have any questions about what is going on at school or in Y6S simply call in and speak to Mr Smith, Mr Riley or Mrs Shaw – they would love to be able to help answer your questions.

God Bless,

From all of us in Y6S!

Expectations in Y6S

All children receive reading, spelling and times table homework weekly. Homework should be inspected by parents before it is handed in to ensure that presentation standards are high. Homework is handed out on Wednesdays and should be handed in for Monday.

School uniform is highly important for a Y6 pupil as they are the role models for the rest of the school. It is mandatory that children come to school wearing a red school jumper or cardigan, white shirt/ blouse, red and white striped tie and black or grey trousers/ skirts.

P.E. is on Thursday and, as winter draws in, children should bring appropriate clothing to school. Indoor P.E. kit includes a white t-shirt and red shorts with plimsolls. Outdoor P.E. kit should include tracksuit bottoms and tracksuit top with trainers.

If obtaining any of these items proves difficult for whtever reason, please contact school and we will help in any way that we can.

We will be running ‘SATs Booster’ for all children in Year 6 after Christmas. It is highly important that your child attend these extra lessons as they will provide additonal support for your child in the run up to the exams.

From time to time we may wish to send you reminders about events via text message. If your contact telephone number has changed, please notify the office as soon as possible.

Year 6 had an adventure to York this term in order to gain first-hand experience of the York Dungeon. It was a wonderful feeling to walk along the Shambles and the Christmas markets followed by a tour around York’s most gruesome sights and entrance into the dungeon itself. We got to meet the Plague Doctor, the Executioner and the legendary highwayman: Dick Turpin himself. When we got back to school we used this experience to create our own tourist information leaflets on this wonderful yet terrifying tourist attraction.
