In year 3 we envisage us to all work together, teachers and parents, to ensure a smooth transition into KS2 and to ensure each child leaves being the best they can be.
Welcome to the Spring Term in Year 3. The children have settled into KS2 brilliantly and we are working hard to become independent learners and have started to take responsibility for their own belongings.
In Year 3, all homework will be handed out on a Wednesday and handed back in the following Monday. Homework will include spelling and times table practise. We also expect children to read at home, with an adult, at least three times a week.
PE will be on a Thursday each week although PE kits should stay in school for the full half term.
We are Mathematicians
Throughout this term, we will be working on all areas of maths especially place value and fractions. We now have a working class clock which the children change daily to reinforce their time telling. We are still choosing a mathematician of the week every Friday, someone who impresses us with their effort, presentation and mathematical knowledge.
We are Writers
Our writing is progressing very well in Year 3. We are so proud of the children’s improvements with their handwriting and presentation. This term we will be writing recounts and non chronological reports and well as improving our grammar work. We will be focusing on writing different sentence types and using inverted commas in dialogue.
Also, the Writer of the Week is continuing every Friday. A child will be picked for effort, presentation and content.
We are Scientists
Year 3 love being little scientists and carrying out experiments. This term we will be covering the topics of electricity, the digestive system and sound.
Geography Topic – Rivers
We are currently in the topic of Rivers in Geography. On 17th January we visited the Teesmouth centre and parts of the River Tees. It was great fun, despite the cold temperatures. We are now designing and making our own bridges using inspiration from the Transporter Bridge.
Come and See R.E.
This term in R.E. we will covering the topics of Journeys and The Eucharist. This will link in with our Holy Communion Preparations which we will start in late February. The staff are looking forward to supporting the children through this important sacrament.
