In Year 1/2 we all work really hard but we have a great time doing it. Miss Yassin and Mrs Trotter are very excited about the year ahead with our class of amazing Year 1s and Year 2s.
Our school motto is ‘Christ be our light and our guide’. In year 1/2 we teach the children to follow Jesus’ example by encouraging them to be kind, caring and respectful towards other.
Our class is a busy, hard-working place but we always make time to answer questions if parents or carers have anything they would like to ask – home time is a great time to chat with us.
Year 1 children will be working towards their Phonics screening assessment in the summer. By the end of the year we will all be super ready for them!
Our Year 1 children need to be able to count on or back in ones, twos, fives and tens and use this to derive the multiples of 2, 5, and 10 to the tenth multiple.
Year 2 children will be working hard towards their end of Key stage 1 assessments.
Children will be working towards being able to derive and recall multiplication facts for the 2,3 5 and 10 times tables and the related division facts.
Please try to read with your child every night and write a comment in their reading diary.
Spellings will be sent home every Wednesday. Please also help your child to learn them at home using the Look, Say, Cover, Write, Check method. We will test spellings every following Wednesday.

Parents Summer Letter
To begin the summer term the Year 1 and 2 children visited the wonderful nature reserve of Saltholme. The children and staff had a fabulous time in the great outdoors exploring and discovering. The children used their senses of touch, feel and see to explore the beautiful garden area. Then they moved on to use their sense of smell to make a herb cocktail. They saw sheep with their new baby lambs, some of the children made this link to our R.E. topic and discussed ‘new life.’ We discussed the parts of a flower, then the children were challenged to make and design their own flower using logs and twigs. They had to include all parts of the flower i.e. the roots, stem, flower and petals.
