The Trust opened on the 1 September 2015. The Our Lady of Light Catholic Academy Trust is the business name for the Catholic Multi-Academy Trust which is made up of a family of four schools in the Thornaby and Ingleby Barwick area.
The name for the Trust is firmly rooted in Thornaby’s own rich history, having been developed from the story of Robert de Thormodbi returning wounded from the Crusades in the 13th century. He promised to establish a shrine to the Virgin Mary and did so in St. Peters Church in Thornaby. The shrine was lit by five sanctuary lamps – with the five lamps becoming the symbol to represent the Thornaby community. Our Lady of Light seemed the perfect name to reflect our continuing dedication to the Virgin Mary and five lights are represented by the light of knowledge shared in each of the four schools and the fifth light being the light of Christ guiding and inspiring us all.
The Our Lady of Light Catholic Academy Trust has overarching accountability and governance of four Academies. St. Patrick’s Catholic College, St. Patrick’s RC Primary School and Christ the King RC Primary School in Thornaby and St. Thérèse of Lisieux Catholic Primary School in Ingleby Barwick. Being members of the trust has brought together the four schools sharing a vision to provide the best possible outcomes for all our children.
The mission of the Our Lady of Light Catholic Academy Trust is to continue to raise the quality of education for all the children and young people they serve. One of the greatest strengths of the Trust is the way in which curriculum is being planned to ensure progression from age 3-16 years across the four schools. It is a very exciting plan!
